This is truly a fishermans
paradise and the fishing is, in fact, incredible. The camp, located
in the Alaska Peninsula/Becharof National Wildlife Refuge, is just
a short distance from the ocean. Surrounded by coastal mountains and
bounded by the waters of the Shelikof Strait, the camp is one of the
most remote, rugged, and exclusive locations in Alaska.
The
stream, within walking distance from the camp, is filled with ocean
fresh chum, pink and silver salmon, as well as sea-run Dolly Varden,
and is so clear it's possible to see and cast to specific fish. You
can even see the fish as they enter the river and swim upstream.
We often follow the incoming
fish as they travel upstream on the incoming tides. These fish are
fresh and big! Chum and Silver salmon range from 10 to 20 pounds.
Many people know about the jumping and fighting qualities of silvers,
but few are aware of the fighting abilities of the underrated chum
salmon. These fish, only a few yards out of the saltwater, are exceptional
sportfish. There are also plenty of pink salmon, which are tough and
willing fighters, especially on light gear.
The camp, located on the apron
of a 6,000 foot gravel runway, consists of heavy duty Weatherport
tents with wood floors. There are three 12 by 20 guest
tents, a 18 by 24 kitchen/dining tent, a 10 by 12
shower tent, and two other tents for staff. In addition, the camp
has a semi-permanent metal building which is used for storage and
as a shop. Each tent has a wood burning stove and electricity. The
kitchen/dining tent provides ample space for comfortable dining and
evening activities. The shower tent and lavatory facilities have an
inexhaustible supply of hot water, and the water, which is pumped
from a well, is as clean and pure as you will ever find.
The Yantarni camp can accommodate
up to ten guests per week. It's staffed by a full time cook, two guides,
and a pilot guide. Transportation around the camp and to another nearby
stream is provided by three 4-wheel All Terrain Vehicles. A C-185
aircraft on beach tires, is stationed at the camp. This aircraft is
used to transport guests, luggage, and freight to and from King Salmon.
It's also occasionally used to offer side trips, adding to the diversity
of fishing and sightseeing, when conditions permit.
Guest transportation to the Yantarni
camp is provided by chartered aircraft from King Salmon. The route
of the 100 mile flight is through a coastal mountain range that is
an active volcanic zone, and offers a splendid view of a coastline
like no other on Earth. Your aircraft will arrive at the airstrip
and taxi to within a few feet of the camp. Guests will be met in King
Salmon and will be transported to the camp in the most expeditious
manner possible.
The fishing week is from Sunday
to Sunday. Most guests will find it necessary to overnight in Anchorage
before continuing on to King Salmon and the camp. Guests will return
to King Salmon on the following Sunday.
The cost is $3,750
per person per week. All costs are included after arrival at the camp
except for Alaska fishing licenses (which are available at the camp),
and gratuities. Meals, lodging and guiding services are included in
the cost.
A deposit of fifty
percent (50%) is required at the time of booking to confirm and hold
space. We will provisionally hold space for 10 days from the date of
booking until deposits are received. Thereafter, we may cancel bookings
that are not confirmed by deposit. Deposits and other payments are not
refundable. However, guests may transfer deposits or other payments
to another person using the same space of the fishing week booked. Further,
deposits may be transferred to a future year, provided such request
is made by April 1. A final payment of fifty percent (50%) is due 60
days prior to the beginning of the trip. We are happy to discuss the
reasons for these policy with any guest who wishes to have additional
information.
The camp offers a full daily menu
starting with a hot breakfast. It varies from day to day but usually
includes eggs, bacon, cereal, hot cakes, toast, juice and fresh fruit.
Since the stream is nearby, we can return to the camp for the mid-day
meal. The catch of the day (fresh salmon) is always on the menu and
is prepared in the fire-pit/barbecue area. Full course meals are served
each evening and usually consist of prime rib, New York steak, turkey
or similar items.
A variety of snacks are available
at any time throughout the day and evening. If requested, the catch
of the day is always on the menu for any meal. Special menus to meet
dietary needs can be arranged, provided we have sufficient advance notice.
We serve wine with dinner and provide
beer and soft drinks. Guests who prefer other alcoholic beverages should
provide their own supply.
* An extra special bonus to this
camp is the possibility of some extraordinary flight seeing over one
of the most remote regions of Alaska.
We can fly you inside the crater
of an extinct volcano, an experience that is worth the trip in itself.
Note: Our ability to add this
experience to your trip depends on several factors including; availability
of the airplane absent its normal duties, weather conditions that
may restrict flying safety and the availability of the pilot to be
away from his normal guiding and other camp responsibilities.
So, this flight seeing should not
be considered a regular part of the trip. However, you may expect that
this will be included, if we consider it possible.
